TotalEnergies Secures Financing for 1 GW Wind and Battery Project in Kazakhstan
TotalEnergies has finalized a $1.2 billion investment for the Mirny project, integrating 1 GW wind capacity with 600 MWh of battery storage. The initiative aims to provide renewable energy to approximately 1 million people and is expected to reach full operational capacity by 2029.

TotalEnergies has confirmed a $1.2 billion investment in the Mirny project, which combines a 1 GW wind farm with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system in Kazakhstan. This project, located in the southeast, is projected to generate 100 TWh of renewable electricity over 25 years, supplying around 1 million people.
TotalEnergies holds a 60% stake, with partners KazMunayGas and Samruk Energy each owning 20%. The financing framework has been established with an international consortium, including EBRD and Société Générale.
The project aligns with Kazakhstan’s goal to increase renewable energy's share to 15% by 2030, amidst ongoing legal disputes faced by TotalEnergies in the region. Achieving this project’s targets may enhance Kazakhstan’s energy infrastructure and support its long-term net zero ambitions.
