Tower Semiconductor and Coherent Achieve 400 Gbps Data Transmission Breakthrough
Tower Semiconductor and Coherent demonstrated 400 Gbps data transmission using a silicon modulator on a silicon photonics platform. Tower's shares rose 8% and Coherent's shares increased by nearly 3% following the announcement. The achievement supports next-generation 3.2T optical transceivers, enhancing silicon's role in data center connectivity. The demonstration was showcased at OFC with a clear open eye at 420 Gb/s PAM4 using Coherent's high-power laser.

Tower Semiconductor and Coherent demonstrated 400 Gbps per lane data transmission utilizing a silicon modulator on a production-ready silicon photonics platform. Following this announcement, Tower's shares increased by 8% and Coherent's shares rose nearly 3%.
This breakthrough targets the development of next-generation 3.2T optical transceivers and enhances silicon's capabilities for pluggable transceivers and co-packaged optics in data center connectivity. The demonstration, presented at OFC, achieved a clear open eye at 420 Gb/s PAM4 using Coherent's high-power InP continuous-wave laser.
