Toyoda Gosei to Launch Clean Energy Greenhouses for Year-Round Strawberry Cultivation by 2026

HYDROGEN

Toyoda Gosei Co., part of the Toyota Motor group, intends to sell clean energy greenhouses for strawberry cultivation starting in fiscal 2026. These facilities will utilize solar-powered electric generators for climate control, enabling year-round production without greenhouse gas emissions.

The initiative aims to stabilize revenue for growers, particularly during the summer when harvests typically decline. The greenhouses will include solar panels, batteries, air-conditioning systems, LEDs, strawberry seedlings, and soil.

Toyoda Gosei will also share cultivation techniques with interested companies. The Inabe Plant in Mie Prefecture, where the company grows strawberries using renewable energy while manufacturing hydrogen storage tanks, has already supplied strawberries to a hotel in Nagoya. The company plans to collect feedback during trial sales to refine its approach before a full-scale launch.
