Toyota will use nickel-based batteries for all its electrified vehicle models in Indonesia, including Vios Hybrid EV, Yaris Cross Hybrid EV, and Alphard XE Hybrid EV, supporting Indonesia's mineral downstreaming program. President Director Nandi Julyanto emphasized Indonesia's large nickel reserves, making nickel the main component in all Toyota battery types.

While nickel-based batteries are pricier, they offer better durability. The company is addressing challenges in domestic nickel utilization, as much is exported for processing. Toyota is promoting the localization of the battery industry based on production capacity and supportive government policies.
