Tozero Launches Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Demonstration Plant in Bavaria
München-based startup Tozero has inaugurated its first demonstration plant in Gendorf, aiming to process 500 tons of battery waste annually. The company offers battery waste recycling services and partners with industries including BMW and MAN. Tozero has secured a total of €14.5 million in funding and plans to scale operations by 2030 to recover 1,000 tons of lithium and graphite. The EU mandates that 80% of lithium from old batteries be recycled by 2031, aligning with Tozero's goals.

Tozero, a Munich startup, has launched its first demonstration plant in Gendorf, capable of processing 500 tons of battery waste per year and recycling over 100 tons of lithium carbonate. The startup focuses on two business models: purchasing battery waste for resource recovery and offering recycling services to companies.
It has partnered with BMW, MAN, and Webasto and has raised €14.5 million in funding through two financing rounds. Tozero aims to build a fully scaled factory by 2030 to recover 1,000 tons of lithium and graphite annually, in line with EU recycling targets for 2031. The company is also increasing its partnerships across ten European countries.
