Trafigura, CF Industries, and TFG Marine signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a global supply chain for low-carbon ammonia as a marine fuel, focusing on the US Gulf and northwest Europe. CF Industries will leverage its Donaldsonville, Louisiana, facility to produce low-carbon ammonia.

The partnership aims to facilitate market supply, stakeholder engagement, and bunkering logistics. Trafigura plans to have six ammonia-fueled vessels by 2030 and currently has four gas carriers on order for delivery by 2028.

The agreement builds on previous collaboration between CF and Trafigura, including a shipment of certified low-carbon ammonia to Europe. The development of ammonia as a marine fuel depends on the establishment of bunkering infrastructure and vessel adoption.
