Train Collision at THDC Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydropower Project Injures 88 Workers in Chamoli
A collision between two loco trains at the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydropower Project in Chamoli injured 88 workers, with 42 hospitalized in Gopeshwar and 17 in Pipalkoti. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to ensure adequate medical care for the injured. The trains involved were part of a local transportation arrangement for the project, which aims to generate 444 megawatts of electricity upon its expected completion next year.

A collision between two loco trains at the under-construction Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydropower Project in Chamoli district resulted in 88 injuries. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Tuesday, with the trains transporting workers and materials.
Chamoli District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar reported that 42 injured were admitted to the District Hospital in Gopeshwar, while 17 were treated at Vivekananda Hospital in Pipalkoti. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured.
The Railway authorities clarified that the trains were part of a local transportation arrangement for the tunnel project and are not connected to Indian Railways. The hydropower project, located on the Alaknanda River, aims to generate 444 megawatts of electricity and is expected to be completed next year.
