Trump Engages Tech Giants to Mitigate Energy Costs from AI Data Centers
The Trump administration has begun discussions with major U.S. tech companies, starting with Microsoft, to ensure that energy costs from AI data centers do not burden consumers. Trump announced this initiative on Truth Social, highlighting a significant increase in household electricity bills under the previous Biden administration.
The administration aims to prevent rising costs linked to the expansion of digital infrastructures. The International Energy Agency estimates that U.S. data center energy consumption will double by 2030 to about 400 TWh annually.
Trump stressed that tech companies must cover their energy expenses without passing costs onto consumers. Microsoft is expected to announce substantial changes soon to address these energy concerns. The initiative indicates a shift towards government intervention in traditionally free-market tech policies. The operational details of the agreement with Microsoft are anticipated in the coming days.
