Tulum Energy Awards EPC Contract to SEC for Turquoise Hydrogen Pilot Plant in Mexico
Tulum Energy has awarded an EPC contract to Scandinavian Energy Contractors for a turquoise hydrogen pilot plant in Pesquería, Mexico. The facility will utilize electric arc furnace technology for methane pyrolysis to produce hydrogen and solid carbon. This project follows Tulum's $27 million funding raise, aimed at making hydrogen decarbonization scalable in challenging sectors. SEC will manage engineering and construction through 2026 and 2027, with details on capacity and timeline still pending.

Tulum Energy has awarded an EPC contract to Scandinavian Energy Contractors (SEC) for a turquoise hydrogen pilot plant in Pesquería, Mexico. The plant will utilize proprietary electric arc furnace technology developed in collaboration with Tenova to produce hydrogen and solid carbon through methane pyrolysis.
The project aims to validate this method, reducing carbon intensity compared to traditional hydrogen production. SEC will oversee detailed engineering, technical execution, and site management from 2026 to 2027. Tulum raised $27 million in July 2025 to fund the project, which requires significantly less land than conventional facilities.
