Turkey Invests in LNG Project at Nador West Med Port in Morocco

HYDROGENNATURAL GAS

Turkey is pursuing a significant energy project in northern Morocco, specifically at the Nador West Med port. The Turkish government is leveraging its maritime and industrial sectors to gain a favorable position in an international tender for the operation of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for liquefied natural gas (LNG), which will be crucial for Morocco's energy supply.

Turkish companies have an advantage as they were previously involved in constructing the port facilities. The FSRU will receive LNG, convert it to gas, and transport it via pipelines to industrial regions in northwestern Morocco.

The Nador West Med port is scheduled to become operational in the second half of 2026, with an industrial zone planned to cover 5,000 hectares. The infrastructure will also support future green hydrogen exports, reducing Morocco's reliance on fossil fuels. The Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition requires international partners to submit technical and financial documents by the end of January for a long-term lease contract.
