Turkmenistan's Galkynysh Gas Field Potentially Holds 30 Trillion Cubic Meters
The Galkynysh gas field in Turkmenistan, one of the largest in the world, is set to significantly impact gas supply dynamics from Asia to Europe. Its exploitation could meet substantial demands, including that of the EU and China, for decades to come.

The Galkynysh gas field, located in Turkmenistan's Karakum Desert, is recognized as one of the largest gas reserves globally, with estimated resources between 14,000 and 27,000 billion cubic meters. Recent agreements between Turkmenistan and China aim to enhance production capacity by adding 10 billion cubic meters of commercial gas annually, part of a $5.1 billion investment for the fourth phase of a seven-phase expansion.
Initial drilling has revealed gas deposits at depths of 3,900 to 5,000 meters, leading to the construction of 22 exploratory wells. The field's high hydrogen sulfide and CO2 content necessitates advanced extraction technologies. If fully developed, Galkynysh could achieve production levels approaching 200 billion cubic meters per year, influencing global energy prices.
