Two Asian Elephants Electrocuted by Illegal Snares in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh
Two Asian elephants, around 12 years old, died of electrocution near Talakona Reserve Forest in Tirupati district after coming into contact with illegal electric snares connected to a transmission line. The incident occurred approximately 450 meters from the forest boundary while the elephants were foraging in agricultural fields. A case has been registered, and a committee has been formed to investigate the matter.

On March 9, two Asian elephants, aged around 12 years, were electrocuted near Talakona Reserve Forest in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. They encountered illegal electric snares made of aluminium wires connected to a 33/11 kV transmission line while foraging in agricultural fields, approximately 450 meters from the Reserve Forest boundary.
The elephants, residents of the forest, had recently ventured into agricultural lands. A case has been filed, and a committee led by the District Forest Officer has been established for further investigation, following the Ministry of Environment protocols.
