U of A and Edmonton Partner to Research Hydrogen-Powered Vehicle Integration
The University of Alberta partnered with the City of Edmonton and Diesel Tech Industries to research integrating hydrogen fuel into the City's vehicle fleet, including buses. The project aims to improve hydrogen combustion and dual-fuel systems, with a focus on retrofitting diesel engines.
The partnership is supported by grants from Emissions Reduction Alberta and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Edmonton's fleet includes 60 electric buses and one hydrogen fuel-cell bus.
The Alberta government aims to increase hydrogen use as it is the largest hydrogen producer in Canada. The University of Calgary is also conducting hydrogen fuel research, funded by a $1.27 million grant.
