UAE and Saudi Arabia Lead MENA's Renewable Energy Growth with 15 GW in 2025
In 2025, the MENA region added nearly 15 GW of solar and wind capacity, reflecting significant growth from previous years and bringing the total project pipeline to 202 GW. The UAE plans to triple its renewable energy capacity to over 22 GW by 2030, while Saudi Arabia has achieved record low costs for solar and wind energy. Other countries in the region, such as Iraq, are also making strides, with Iraq targeting 12 GW by 2030.

The MENA region added nearly 15 GW of solar and wind capacity in 2025, marking a significant growth from 14 GW in 2020 to 30 GW in 2024. The UAE aims to triple its renewable energy capacity to over 22 GW by 2030, with Masdar and EWEC developing a 5.2 GW solar park with 19 GWh of battery storage.
Saudi Arabia achieved record low costs for solar and wind, with LCOE at 1.09 USDcent/kWh and 1.33 USDcent/kWh respectively. The total project pipeline in the region has expanded to 202 GW, a 54% increase from the previous year, highlighting the acceleration in renewable energy deployment. Other countries like Iraq, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan are also advancing in the renewable sector, with Iraq targeting 12 GW by 2030.
