Uber Acquires Blacklane, Reveals 6% Stake in WeRide
Uber's strategic moves include a 5.82% stake in WeRide and the acquisition of Blacklane, indicating a dual approach in the ride-hailing market. The investments aim to streamline costs through automation while enhancing premium service offerings.

Uber Technologies confirmed a 5.82% stake in WeRide, a Chinese autonomous vehicle company, alongside the announcement to acquire Blacklane, a Berlin-based premium chauffeur service. The WeRide stake comprises 56,618,266 shares, following a $100 million investment in May 2025 to expand operations across 15 cities over five years.
WeRide operates 1,125 robotaxis and plans to increase its fleet to 2,600 by year-end, while targeting 25 trips per vehicle per day at competitive pricing. The acquisition of Blacklane, valued at $547 million, aims to enhance Uber's premium travel options, pending regulatory approval. Both strategies are intended to lower operational costs through automation and increase margins via luxury services, though risks persist in both markets.
