UJVNL Advances Hydropower and Renewable Energy Initiatives in Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) focuses on developing hydropower and renewable energy projects in Uttarakhand, which has a hydropower potential of 25,000 MW. UJVNL reported 5,175.42 MUs of hydropower generation in FY 2024-25 and plans future projects including 1,337 MW of large hydropower and 94.5 MW of small hydropower. The state aims for 2,500 MW solar capacity by 2027. UJVNL is also exploring green hydrogen and battery energy storage systems to enhance its clean energy portfolio.

Uttarakhand, with a hydropower potential of 25,000 MW, is advancing its energy sector through UJVNL. In FY 2024-25, UJVNL achieved hydropower generation of 5,175.42 MUs, slightly below the target of 5,306.25 MUs.
Financially, total income rose to Rs 11.32 billion, with profits at Rs 0.57 billion. Future projects include a 1,337 MW large hydropower component and a 94.5 MW small hydro pipeline, with commissioning starting from 2027.
The state targets 2,500 MW solar capacity by 2027. UJVNL is also pursuing green hydrogen and battery energy storage systems to diversify its clean energy initiatives.
