UK Forces to Receive Skyhammer Missiles to Counter Iranian Drones
The UK is acquiring Skyhammer interceptor missiles to enhance defense against Iranian Shahed drones, with the first delivery scheduled for May 2026. This procurement is part of a broader initiative among Western militaries to develop cost-effective air defense strategies against low-cost aerial threats.

The UK Ministry of Defense has confirmed the upcoming delivery of Skyhammer interceptor missiles, designed to counter Iranian Shahed drones, with the initial batch set to arrive in May 2026. Produced by Cambridge Aerospace, this acquisition follows a multimillion-pound contract to enhance air defense capabilities.
Each missile has a range of 30 kilometers and reaches speeds of 700 km/h, utilizing onboard radar for interception. British forces previously engaged Shahed drones during military operations in the Middle East, emphasizing the need for improved drone defenses.
The introduction of Skyhammer aligns with efforts by the UK and allies to explore economical options for air defense, particularly in light of the high costs associated with traditional systems. Countries in Europe and the Middle East are increasingly focused on procuring low-cost interceptors as part of their military strategies.
