UK Government Secures 8.4 GW Offshore Wind Capacity in Contracts for Difference AR7

WIND ENERGY

The UK Government secured 8.4 GW of offshore wind capacity through Contracts for Difference AR7, sufficient to power 12 million homes. The average cost was £90.91 per MWh, 40% lower than new gas generation costs of £147 per MWh.

The auction is expected to unlock £22 billion in private investment and support 7,000 jobs. Projects include Dogger Bank South and Norfolk Vanguard, among the largest offshore wind farms globally, as well as Berwick Bank, the largest planned project in the world.

Floating wind projects Erebus and Pentland also received support. The UK has over 29 GW of operational wind capacity, with demand projected to double by 2050.
