UK Government Secures 8.4GW of Offshore Wind Power in Record Auction

WIND ENERGY

The UK Government has awarded contracts for 8.4 GW of offshore wind power in its latest auction, sufficient to power 12 million homes. The contracts include six projects, such as Berwick Bank, Dogger Bank South, Norfolk Vanguard, and Awel Y Mor, with an average strike price of £91 per MWh.

This auction aims to support the UK’s clean energy goals by 2030, attracting £22 billion in private investment and creating 7,000 jobs. The floating wind projects Erebus and Pentland are also included. This capacity marks a record for power bought in an auction, despite higher contract prices compared to previous years.
