UK Networks Services Issues RFP for Battery Energy Storage Systems for EV Charging Hubs
UK Networks Services is initiating its first phase of a program to deploy 22 battery energy storage systems for EV charging hubs across the UK. This initiative will support around 160 sites and is expected to deliver systems, including various power capacities, later this year. The approach aims to mitigate grid connection limitations by allowing batteries to store energy steadily and deliver it quickly for rapid EV charging.

UK Networks Services is seeking suppliers for 22 battery energy storage systems to support EV charging hubs across the UK, marking the first phase of a broader program for approximately 160 sites. The initial systems, expected to be delivered later this year, will feature capacities of 50kW/50kWh, 100kW/100kWh, 150kW/150kWh, and larger 1,000kW/2,000kWh units.
This approach allows batteries to charge steadily from the grid and release power quickly for fast EV charging, addressing industry challenges with grid connections. The RFP represents a step towards mainstream adoption of battery-backed EV charging.
