UK Project to Enhance Charging Infrastructure for Electric HGVs
UK Power Networks leads the Future Fleet initiative, collaborating with industry partners to analyze eHGV charging needs. This project aims to improve grid connections and reduce costs for fleet operators by mapping freight routes and demand patterns.

The Future Fleet initiative, led by UK Power Networks, aims to facilitate the integration of electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs) into logistics networks. By collaborating with partners like Maritime Transport, Voltloader, and Voltempo, the project will create models of freight movement to identify potential charging demand 'archetypes'.
An initial six-month phase will outline requirements for a live trial, targeting scalable solutions for the logistics sector. The initiative will also explore smart energy techniques, including flexible charging and battery storage, to optimize costs. The insights gained will support network planners in accommodating future eHGV charging needs, essential for decarbonizing road freight.
