UK Requests Up to $1 Billion in US Support for AUKUS Submarine Combat Systems
The UK government has requested US support valued at up to $1 billion for technical assistance and systems related to AUKUS submarine combat systems. This request expands an earlier $50 million case aimed at developing next-generation nuclear-powered attack submarines for the Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy. The initiative is intended to enhance maritime security and stability in Europe while supporting NATO objectives.

The UK has requested up to $1 billion in US support for submarine combat systems under the AUKUS program, expanding a previous $50 million Foreign Military Sales case. The request includes technical assistance for design and development of vertical deployment tubes, weapon launchers, and various IT and simulation systems.
The proposed sale aims to bolster UK capabilities against current and future threats and improve maritime security in northwestern Europe. The SSN-AUKUS program plans for the construction of up to twelve submarines by the UK and five by Australia, with entry into service expected in the late 2030s to early 2040s. The submarines will utilize advanced US technology and are designed for interoperability among the AUKUS partners.
