UKIFS Awards £7.9M Contract to Boxxe for Modular HPC Data Center at Culham Science Centre
UK Industrial Fusion Solutions Ltd (UKIFS) has awarded Boxxe Ltd a £7.87 million contract to construct a modular high-performance computing data center at the Culham Science Centre in Oxfordshire. The project will include the installation of CPU and GPU nodes, supported by long-term maintenance, with hardware supplied by Dell Technologies. This initiative is part of the STEP Fusion program, which aims to develop the UK's first prototype fusion energy plant.

The contract includes the installation of a modular data center with CPU and GPU nodes, along with long-term support and maintenance. The deal was awarded through the Southern University Purchasing Consortium framework for High Performance Computing, with Dell Technologies supplying the hardware.
UKIFS is leading the STEP Fusion program, aiming to develop the UK's first prototype fusion energy plant, which seeks to harness electricity from fusion reactors. Major tech companies are investing in fusion energy for future data center power solutions.
