UKRI Allocates £51.2 Million for National Cryogenic Facility to Boost Quantum and Clean Energy Research
UKRI has announced a £51.2 million investment for a National Cryogenic Facility (NCF) at Daresbury Laboratory, enabling research at temperatures from 2 Kelvin to 20 Kelvin. This facility aims to enhance cryogenic research capacity by six times, supporting advancements in quantum computing and healthcare technologies. The funding is part of a larger £156.6 million initiative that includes projects in bioimaging, tidal energy, and agricultural research, aimed at strengthening the UK's research infrastructure and economic growth.

UKRI will invest £51.2 million to establish a National Cryogenic Facility (NCF) at Daresbury Laboratory, allowing research at temperatures from 2 Kelvin to 20 Kelvin. The facility will increase the UK's cryogenic research capacity by approximately six times, supporting sectors such as quantum computing, healthcare, and clean energy.
This investment is part of a £156.6 million funding package that includes the IMAS-UK bioimaging initiative, the Blue Horizon tidal energy project, and the PhenomUK agricultural research program. These projects aim to drive scientific progress and economic growth in the UK.
