UK's Infrastructure Pipeline Shows £365bn Investment in Energy Projects Over Next Decade
The National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA) reports that 51% of the UK's £718bn infrastructure pipeline is allocated to 200 energy projects, totaling £365bn. Key investments include £136bn for offshore and onshore wind and £250m for solar. The energy sector will require an estimated workforce of 621,000 to 706,000 annually over the next five years, primarily in construction. Most energy projects are located in Scotland and Wales, with significant investments in water and wastewater sectors as well.

According to NISTA, 51% of the UK's £718bn infrastructure pipeline will be invested in 200 energy projects, amounting to £365bn over the next decade. The energy sector dominates the investment landscape, with transport, health, and water sectors following at £113bn, £82bn, and £68bn, respectively.
In the short term, £71bn is estimated for energy projects from 2026/27. Offshore and onshore wind projects account for £136bn, while £250m is earmarked for solar. The energy sector includes 52 privately financed projects at £53bn and 32 publicly financed at £5bn. Most projects are in Scotland and Wales, requiring an annual workforce of 621,000 to 706,000 over the next five years.
