Uljin County Submits Petition to Include Central Trans-East Railway in National Plan
Uljin County, alongside three provinces and 13 cities, has submitted a petition to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to include the Central Trans-East Railway in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan. This project aims to enhance east-west railway connections, reducing travel time between Seosan and Uljin to two hours, while also supporting logistics, tourism, and the nuclear hydrogen industrial complex. Since 2016, local support has grown, resulting in some project lines being incorporated into previous national plans.

Uljin County submitted a joint petition with three provinces and 13 cities to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, urging the inclusion of the Central Trans-East Railway in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan. The project aims to supplement the largely north-south railway network by improving the vulnerable east-west connections from Seosan to Uljin.
The railway is expected to facilitate a two-hour travel time between Seosan and Uljin, create a logistics and tourism economic belt, secure mass transportation for the nuclear hydrogen industrial complex, and complete the railway network linking the East Coast and inland. Since 2016, the cooperative body has gathered significant local support, leading to some project lines being included in previous national plans. The project connects 330 km of railway across multiple cities in South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong, and North Gyeongsang provinces.
