Ultra Ethernet Consortium Introduces UET and TSS for Enhanced Data Security in AI/HPC Systems
The Ultra Ethernet Consortium has launched a new IP-based transport protocol (UET) and security protocol (TSS) aimed at improving data transfer efficiency in AI/HPC systems. UET, implemented in SmartNICs, enhances data movement in data centers by utilizing concepts from IPsec and PSP. TSS is designed for hardware implementation near Ethernet ports to achieve line rate performance and low latency.

The Ultra Ethernet Consortium has introduced an IP-based transport protocol named UET, accompanied by a new security protocol called TSS, aimed at enhancing data transfer in data centers for servers and AI/HPC clusters. UET is designed to improve efficiency in Ethernet use, building on traditional RDMA and security methods like MACsec and IPsec ESP.
TSS focuses on protecting and isolating traffic, utilizing principles from IPsec and PSP. Both protocols are implemented in SmartNICs, with TSS requiring full hardware implementation close to Ethernet ports to ensure optimal performance and minimal latency.
