A delegation from the UN-FAO visited Tiruppur to assess the carbon credit potential of the 'Vanathukkul Tiruppur' project. The initiative has resulted in the planting of 2.5 million trees over 11 years, enhancing local biodiversity and supporting farmers' economic stability.

The UN-FAO delegation visited Tiruppur to evaluate the carbon credit potential of smallholder farmers involved in the 'Vanathukkul Tiruppur' project, which has planted 2.5 million trees in 11 years. This initiative, led by the NGO Vetry, integrates advanced silvopastoral models to provide economic security and boost carbon sequestration for local farmers.
The technical team assessed various agro-forestry systems, including monoculture and native species plantations, during site inspections at Glenmorgan Farm. The project is considered a replicable model for sustainable agro-forestry in India, promoting economic rewards for environmental stewardship. The collaboration among Vetry, civil society, and research institutions enhances its impact.
