Underground Data Center Project Launched in Trentino, Italy
Trentino Data Mine initiative transforms an active dolomite mine into a data center, enhancing data security and sustainability. This innovative project utilizes natural geological features for energy efficiency and aims to support digital infrastructure growth in Italy.

The Trentino Data Mine project repurposes an active dolomite mine into a sophisticated underground data center. With an initial investment of 37 million euros, the project, supported by a public-private partnership, includes a supercomputer from HP Enterprise with 150 kW power and 56 GPUs.
It operates on 100% renewable energy from a nearby hydroelectric plant, achieving a 40% reduction in energy costs. The first phase includes two 170-meter tunnels, with plans to scale up storage capacity significantly.
Scheduled completion for the entire project is set for June 2026. This initiative enhances local digital infrastructure and aims to ensure data sovereignty and security for sensitive information.
