UNIDO Commits to Support Circular Economy Implementation in Nigeria
The UNIDO has pledged to support Nigeria's transition to a circular economy during the Nigeria Circular Economy Working Group Meeting in Lagos. The meeting facilitated discussions among stakeholders, including government representatives and partners from the Kingdom of Netherlands and European Union, to share progress and challenges. Key issues include funding shortages, infrastructure deficits, and a lack of local recycling technologies. UNIDO aims to leverage collaboration to develop scalable circular economy solutions across Nigeria.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) has committed to supporting Nigeria's transition to a circular economy, as emphasized during the Nigeria Circular Economy Working Group (NCEWG) Meeting in Lagos. Stakeholders from federal and state governments, as well as partners from the Kingdom of Netherlands and European Union, discussed progress and challenges faced in implementing circular economy principles.
The Working Group aims to create evidence-based policies and scalable projects, but funding gaps and infrastructure deficits remain significant obstacles. UNIDO's Co-Chair, Dr. Osuji Otu, highlighted the importance of collaboration across various sectors. The roadmap outlined by the Federal Ministry of Environment seeks to transform Nigeria's waste management approach, promoting resource efficiency and sustainable production.
