UNIGRID Achieves 25-Year Lifespan for Sodium-Ion Batteries in Energy Storage Solutions
UNIGRID Inc. has announced a sodium-ion battery technology achieving 5,000 full-depth cycles with over 95% capacity retention, resulting in a projected lifespan of 25 years. This advancement addresses the cycle life limitations of lithium-ion batteries, which typically last 7 to 10 years. The new NaCrO2 chemistry supports long-term energy storage, aligning with the operational life of solar assets, and enables predictable financing models while lowering costs.

UNIGRID Inc. has developed a sodium-ion battery technology that achieves 5,000 full-depth cycles with over 95% capacity retention, resulting in an expected cycle life of 20,000 cycles and an operational life of up to 25 years. This advancement resolves the mismatch between the lifespan of solar panels, which typically last 25 years, and conventional lithium-ion batteries that degrade within 7 to 10 years.
UNIGRID's NCO chemistry offers over three times the cycle life of lithium-ion batteries, transforming energy storage into a long-lasting infrastructure component. This innovation facilitates more predictable financing models and reduces lifetime costs.
