United Utilities Invests £34.4M in River Weaver Sewage Treatment Works Upgrade

United Utilities has initiated a £34.4 million upgrade at its wastewater treatment works in Aston juxta Mondrum, enhancing water quality in the River Weaver. The facility will incorporate innovative technology from the energy sector to lower ammonia and phosphorus levels in treated wastewater.
A cooling tower will be installed to improve operational efficiency. The project aims to support future population growth in the area and is part of a £2.5 billion infrastructure program. Work is expected to continue throughout the year, with the first phase expedited by 12 months.
