University of Surrey and Ceres Partnership to Advance Clean Power and Hydrogen Technologies in the UK

FUEL CELLHYDROGEN

The University of Surrey and Ceres have formed a partnership to accelerate the development of clean power systems and hydrogen production, addressing the UK’s net zero goals and a skills gap in electrochemical energy technologies. The collaboration combines Ceres' expertise in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) with Surrey's strengths in research and advanced materials.

The focus will be on enhancing efficiency, durability, and performance of these technologies through advanced modelling and mechanistic insights. The teams will engage in joint research projects, collaborative funding bids, and training opportunities for students. A three-year Heads of Terms agreement outlines the partnership, which was officially launched with a signing ceremony on 14 January 2026.
