University of Wisconsin Disappointed by ASM's Divestment Resolution Against BlackRock and Other Entities
The University of Wisconsin expressed disappointment following the passage of an Associated Students of Madison resolution that demands divestment from BlackRock index funds and other entities. The resolution, introduced by Students for Justice in Palestine, cites concerns over investments related to weapons manufacturers and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. UW highlighted that state law prohibits such boycotts against Israel and indicated that ASM leadership was advised on the resolution's legality.

The University of Wisconsin criticized the Associated Students of Madison (ASM) for passing a resolution demanding divestment from BlackRock index funds, which allegedly invest in companies supplying weapons to the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan and the Israeli Defense Force. The resolution also calls for divesting from U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement and entities violating Native American treaties. The university noted that Wisconsin state law prevents ASM from engaging in boycotts against Israel and that university attorneys advised ASM on the resolution's illegality.
