Urbana Council Advances Zoning Repeal and Cybersecurity Legislation; Approves Airport Funding
The Urbana City Council is repealing recent zoning changes to prevent data center development and has initiated a formal cybersecurity program. These actions aim to protect local infrastructure and data integrity while facilitating airport funding applications.

The Urbana City Council is taking steps to repeal zoning changes that allowed for potential data center development, reverting to previous regulations. A special meeting is set for June 9 to conduct a public hearing on Ordinance 4634-26, which aims to eliminate new zoning allowances for data-related facilities.
Additionally, the council is establishing a cybersecurity program compliant with state law, incorporating the NIST Cybersecurity Framework to safeguard public data and resources. This program includes annual training for city employees and designates oversight responsibilities for cybersecurity. Furthermore, the council approved emergency resolutions for grant applications to the Ohio Department of Transportation's aviation programs for airport improvements, enabling future infrastructure funding without committing to specific projects.
