Urenco Expands Capacity Amid Global Nuclear Power Growth
Urenco plans significant capacity increases in the U.S. and Europe, responding to growing demand for nuclear fuel. The company aims to add 4.6 million SWU over the next six years, driven by heightened energy security concerns and the rise of AI data centers.

Urenco, a major international nuclear fuel supplier, is expanding its enrichment capacity in response to increased demand from energy companies and nuclear projects. The company announced an expansion of its New Mexico facility by 2.1 million SWU, contributing to a total of 4.6 million SWU planned across the U.S. and Europe over the next six years.
Factors such as climate goals, energy security post-Ukrainian conflict, and the surge in electricity demand from AI data centers are driving this growth. Urenco also plans to produce higher enrichment fuel types and is developing a HALEU production facility in the UK, scheduled to start in 2031. The company emphasizes the need for new uranium deposits to support this expansion and calls for clearer political frameworks to ensure investment stability.
