During a UK PACT workshop on May 4, 2026, stakeholders highlighted the urgent need for the Ikere Gorge Hydropower Project in Nigeria, emphasizing its potential to address electricity supply issues and foster economic growth. The project, proposed to operate under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, aims to tackle the country's significant energy deficits and promote renewable energy solutions.
Challenges such as financing constraints and regulatory issues were identified, with calls for enhanced private sector involvement. The Oyo State Commissioner for Energy noted the project’s alignment with the Electricity Act 2023 and emphasized state support for energy investments.
