US Air Force Upgrades F-22 Raptor with Anti-Jam GPS System
The F-22 Raptor fleet is receiving an upgrade through Northrop Grumman's new anti-jam GPS system, the LN-351. This $1.39 billion program aims to enhance the F-22's survivability against electronic warfare, ensuring its operational capability until the introduction of the Next Generation Air Dominance platform in the 2030s.
Northrop Grumman's LN-351 anti-jam navigation system has been delivered to the US Air Force to upgrade the F-22 Raptor fleet. This system leverages M-code signals from GPS III satellites for improved resilience in contested environments, replacing the older LN-251 system over a 13-year period that started with a contract in 2019.
The F-22 upgrade is critical for maintaining air superiority amid evolving threats, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. The modular design of the LN-351 allows for rapid updates and integration with other systems, enabling enhanced communication and data sharing among allied forces.
This modernization facilitates real-time situational awareness, improving decision-making and operational effectiveness in complex combat scenarios. The F-22 can now operate effectively in GPS-denied environments and support a broader coalition of aircraft, enhancing overall mission success.
