U.S. Approves $4.67 Billion NASAMS Sale to Egypt
The U.S. has authorized a $4.67 billion sale of NASAMS to Egypt, enhancing its air defense capabilities and aligning with U.S. interests.

The U.S. government has authorized the sale of National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) to Egypt, valued at $4.67 billion. This deal, disclosed by the U.S. Department of State, aims to strengthen Egypt's air defense systems, which currently rely on older Soviet and Russian technologies.
The package includes advanced radar systems, launch systems, fire control solutions, command centers, and a significant missile inventory, marking the first sale of medium- and long-range AMRAAM missiles to Egypt. This step could modernize Egypt's F-16 fleet and enhance its air combat capabilities, potentially deterring the acquisition of Chinese weaponry. The deal underscores Egypt's strategic pivot towards U.S. defense technology and aligns with U.S. foreign policy objectives in the region.
