U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Awards $12.8M Contract for Mississippi River Lock and Dam Upgrades
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $12.8 million contract to Kramer North America for upgrades to lock and dam infrastructure on the Mississippi River. The project will improve traveling kevels at Lock and Dam 2 in Hastings and Lock and Dam 3 near Welch, Minnesota, with construction starting in November and expected completion by the 2027 navigation season. The upgrades aim to maintain a safe and efficient navigation system for commercial goods transport along the Upper Mississippi River.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, has awarded a $12.8 million contract to Kramer North America, LLC for upgrades to lock and dam infrastructure on the Mississippi River.
The focus is on improving traveling kevels at Lock and Dam 2 in Hastings and Lock and Dam 3 near Welch, Minnesota. Construction is set to begin in November and will be completed by the start of the 2027 navigation season.
The Corps does not anticipate immediate impacts to navigation. The project supports a vital 9-foot navigation channel and 13 locks and dams crucial for the movement of over 10 million tons of commodities annually, enhancing the efficiency and environmental sustainability of waterborne transportation.
