U.S. Army Corps Permit Required for State Line Bridge Removal on Kankakee River
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit is the final requirement for removing the State Line Bridge on the Kankakee River. The Kankakee River Basin Development Commission aims to remove the bridge later this year to improve water flow and reduce obstructions. The commission has already obtained necessary permits from Indiana environmental agencies. Concerns about debris entrapment and safety have prompted the push for removal, though funding for relocation remains uncertain.

The State Line Bridge on the Kankakee River is set for removal pending a final permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Kankakee River Basin Development Commission hopes to proceed later this year to enhance water flow and address safety issues.
The commission has received permits from Indiana environmental bodies, but no financial commitment for relocating the bridge has been secured. Removal plans include using cranes for careful dismantling and storage.
The bridge's removal is expected to alleviate logjams during high water events. The commission is also monitoring the impact of a nearby $11 billion Amazon data center project on water flow into the Kankakee River.
