US Army ERDC Deploys Barfoot Supercomputer at Mississippi IT Laboratory
The US Army Engineer Research and Development Center has deployed the Barfoot supercomputer at its Information Technology Laboratory in Vicksburg, Mississippi, featuring 212,000 compute cores to enhance military research, climate modeling, and simulations. Named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Col. Van Barfoot, the facility will also see an increase in backup power capacity through new generators in partnership with Entergy of Mississippi and the installation of mobile power generation units.

The US Army Engineer Research and Development Center deployed the Barfoot supercomputer at its Information Technology Laboratory in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The HPE Cray EX4000 system features 212,000 compute cores and will support military research, climate modeling, and simulations.
Barfoot honors Medal of Honor recipient Col. Van Barfoot. The ERDC also plans to double backup power capacity at the ITL facility through new generators in partnership with Entergy of Mississippi, providing an additional 3.2MW. Additionally, ERDC will install four 1.4-megawatt mobile power generation units with GTI Energy and Cummins for enhanced backup power capability.
