US Army Explores Alternative Proteins and Emerging Technologies at Joint Base
The US Army is actively seeking partnerships to develop alternative proteins for military meals, with a focus on enhancing nutrition for service members in combat zones. Concurrently, representatives from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst engaged with the DEVCOM Armaments Center to assess emerging technologies for operational training enhancements.

The US Army has issued a bid for developing alternative proteins aimed at enhancing nutrition for troops, with proposals due by May 15. This initiative is part of preparing for the introduction of vegan options in the military meals program by 2027, which aims to improve food supply chain resilience and tailor nutrition for soldiers in combat zones.
At the same time, representatives from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst visited the DEVCOM Armaments Center on March 26 to explore advanced manufacturing and unmanned aerial systems. This collaboration is expected to facilitate the design of modern training scenarios and enhance technology integration within military operations. The Army's focus on alternative proteins is set to significantly impact MRE production, potentially serving over six million vegan meals annually, reflecting a shift toward climate-friendly options among service members.
