The US Department of Energy canceled funding for solar energy projects in Puerto Rico, including a community solar initiative led by Environmental Defense Fund, the Foundation for a Better Puerto Rico, and Mujeres de Islas. This decision affects over 100 families in Culebra and thousands across Puerto Rico, blocking access to clean and affordable energy.

Since 2022, 45 families in Culebra had installed solar systems through EDF's pilot project. EDF aims to provide effective energy solutions for Puerto Rican communities. Following the cancellation, EDF will explore options to support Culebra's energy independence and resilience.
