US Department of Energy Cancels Solar Project Funding in Puerto Rico
The US Department of Energy has canceled funding for solar energy projects in Puerto Rico, including a community initiative led by the Environmental Defense Fund, impacting over 100 families in Culebra and thousands across the island. This decision halts progress on clean energy access, as 45 families had previously installed solar systems through the pilot project. In response, EDF plans to explore alternative options to support energy independence and resilience for Culebra's communities.

This decision affects over 100 families in Culebra and thousands across Puerto Rico, blocking access to clean and affordable energy.
Since 2022, 45 families in Culebra had installed solar systems through EDF's pilot project. EDF aims to provide effective energy solutions for Puerto Rican communities. Following the cancellation, EDF will explore options to support Culebra's energy independence and resilience.
