US Department of War Partners with New Companies to Enhance Military Strike Capabilities
The Department of War has established agreements with several innovative companies to expand the US military's strike capabilities, including the Low-Cost Containerized Missiles (LCCM) program and low-cost hypersonic solutions. These partnerships aim to procure over 10,000 low-cost cruise missiles by 2027, significantly enhancing the Joint Force's lethality and operational readiness.
The Department of War has initiated partnerships with Anduril, CoAspire, Leidos, and Zone 5 for the Low-Cost Containerized Missiles (LCCM) program, alongside a separate agreement with Castelion for hypersonic weapons. The agreements enable procurement of over 10,000 cruise missiles starting in 2027, with a clear path for rapid production.
Additionally, Castelion is set to receive a contract for 500 Blackbeard missiles annually, with a goal of acquiring over 12,000 in five years. These efforts reflect a shift towards commercial partnerships that drive innovation and production without direct Department investment, underscoring a commitment to scalable military capabilities and modernization of the munitions industrial base.
