U.S. Launches CI Fortify Program to Protect Critical Infrastructure from Chinese Cyber Threats
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has introduced the CI Fortify program to enhance the resilience of critical U.S. infrastructure against cyber threats, particularly from Chinese state-sponsored hackers. This initiative aims to ensure essential services continue during crises or conflicts, addressing vulnerabilities in non-government-owned networks.

The CI Fortify program, launched by CISA, aims to bolster the security of civilian utilities and critical infrastructure against cyber threats, especially from Chinese hackers. This program is in response to Chinese state-sponsored hacking activity known as Volt Typhoon, which has been linked to the People's Liberation Army Cyberspace Force.
U.S. intelligence indicates that these hackers have pre-positioned malware within critical infrastructure sectors like energy, communications, and transportation. The initiative stresses the importance of isolation and recovery capabilities to maintain service delivery during potential geopolitical conflicts, urging infrastructure owners to prepare for operational independence from third-party dependencies.
