U.S. Military Advances Hypersonic Capabilities with Rocket Lab's HASTE Program
The U.S. military is conducting hypersonic tests utilizing Rocket Lab's HASTE program, with a contract valued at $190 million for 20 launches. The initiative aims to expedite the development of hypersonic technologies, particularly the Army's Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon, 'Dark Eagle,' expected to be operational by late 2026.

Rocket Lab's HASTE program is facilitating hypersonic testing for the U.S. military, having secured a $190 million contract for 20 launches over the next four years. HASTE is designed to accelerate components to speeds exceeding Mach 5, supporting the Army's Dark Eagle missile, which will have a range of over 3,500 kilometers and is projected to enter service by late 2026.
The system has achieved seven successful launches with a 100% success rate since 2023. The Dark Eagle missile employs a boost-glide mechanism with a Common Hypersonic Glide Body for enhanced maneuverability, complicating interception. This program is critical for transitioning advanced hypersonic technologies to operational status while reducing development risks.
