U.S. Navy Expands RHIB Fleet with $650M Contract for 474 Boats
The U.S. Navy has awarded a $650 million contract for the procurement of up to 474 composite rigid-hull inflatable boats (RHIBs). This strategic expansion aims to enhance maritime operations and fleet readiness across multiple theaters starting with initial deliveries expected in July 2026.

The U.S. Department of War announced a contract on May 1, 2026, for the acquisition of up to 474 composite RHIBs, managed by the Naval Sea Systems Command. The contract has a potential ceiling value of $650.1 million over ten years, with minimal initial funding and the majority allocated through future orders.
These boats, capable of exceeding speeds of 40 knots, are designed for various naval operations, including search and rescue and maritime interdiction. Their shallow draft allows access to confined waterways, making them crucial in littoral environments. This fleet expansion aligns with the Navy's focus on distributed maritime operations, enhancing deterrence and operational flexibility against hybrid threats.
