U.S. Supports Mota-Engil's Lobito Corridor Concession in DRC for Critical Minerals Supply Chain
The U.S. prioritizes Mota-Engil's concession for the Lobito Corridor in DRC to enhance critical minerals supply chains. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to position the DRC as a key player in the global mining market.

The United States has designated the concession for the Congolese segment of the Lobito Corridor to Mota-Engil as a key aspect of its strategic partnership with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) established on December 4, 2025. This initiative aims to ensure critical minerals flow towards the U.S. and enhance supply chain security.
The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation has indicated potential financing for related infrastructure projects could reach up to $1 billion. The corridor is expected to significantly reduce logistics costs by up to 30% and improve export efficiency from DRC mining hubs. The project anticipates handling 1 million tonnes of exports in its first year of operation, with construction set to start in late 2026.
