USACE Awards $1.078 Billion for Río Puerto Nuevo Flood Risk Management Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced a $1.078 billion construction contract awarded to Ferrovial Construcción PR, LLC. This is the largest Civil Works contract in Puerto Rico's history, aimed at improving the Río Piedras channel to reduce flood risk and enhance public safety.
The project covers channel improvements starting at the José de Diego Bridge and ending near Luis Muñoz Marín Park. The benefits include increased conveyance capacity, protection of infrastructure, and long-term economic stability for local communities. The work is expected to prevent significant damage to homes, schools, and businesses in the area, underscoring the importance of community engagement throughout the construction process.
